Reading Refugee
Refugee Reading Room, (founded by Jeram, who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and serves as an art director and producer), is a project aimed at shedding light on the lives of refugees in South Korea. It provides a platform to understand their experiences, raise awareness about their lives, and amplify their voices, contributing to the promotion of diversity in Korean society. Thanks to the sponsorship from “Kakao GachiGachi” and “Babo’s House”.
The main activities of this project include:
1.Creating a collection of refugee narrative videos and organizing screening events.
2.Providing hearing aids for refugees with hearing impairments.

My role for this creation was to write scripts for them based on the conversations we had. I got to interview La Yeonu (who used to be refugee and is now a Korean citizen) and Mazoon (a refugee in Korea) for the RRR project. It was a meaningful experience because I got to meet refugees in person and talked about how Korean society is in need of a change. It is an ongoing project which is expected to be finished and displayed in July 2024.
When we had an Arabic translator, we were able to have a more in depth conversation. Even when the translator was not available we could communicate, as our interviewee was decent in English. Although, our conversation sometimes involved drawing or choppy words it was enough.
After having long talks and script corrections, we rented a studio with a white background for film shooting.
