1. CUT OUT
In “Cut Out” project, I talk about people with different backgrounds whom may be neglected from possessing undesirable traits. ‘Cut out’ is to take out something away from the larger part of the body by the action of cutting. How we view the size cannot be solely determined in the quantity nor dimensions, but also the power size. So when we talk about the idea of cut out, we need to know what is the weaker portion that got removed intentionally and what is the powerful main body.

I choose a pair of scissors as an inspiration because it is a tool to remove something. The stroke from the font is inspired from a dresser’s scissor blade. Often other print base fonts have inner and outer circle in the letter “O.” However, in “Cut Out Font,” the inner negative and outer positive part got combined to emphasize the entire removed area. The pointy edges of the font signify the sharp removal procedure and hurtful experiences that the removed subjects went through.

The first jobs that refugees get in Korea often involve physical work. I redesigned a factory uniform to show the dignity of refugees who provide a meaningful workforce for Korean society. This is why I did the photo shooting in construction material warehouse. Many thanks to KSWood, a location provider.
