It is known that some elderly people lack constant communication with others, to the extent that no one becomes aware of their passing until neighbors report a concerning smell. This made me think of the indifference within the Korean community. In order to encourage the younger and middle-aged generation to think more about other senior citizen, I designed an app where participants can create a visual letter for those who have passed away in solitude.

This event will take place at SeMA Bunker, where is an underground exhibition area. I choose this place because it is very close to grave yard concept. Where many historical graveyards are placed in underground.

The logo is inspired from a lily, a flower that is often used in funeral in Korea. I used serif font Romi for the base because I wanted to show the calm morning atmosphere in the logo. San bold font does not seem to match with the concept of morning because it is often used in fast changing industry.

If no family or friends organize a funeral, it is run by the government, lasting only 15 minutes per person due to the absence of mourners. This contrasts with the three-day funerals that are customary in Korean society. In the mobile web, the arrived letters will be displayed for only three days, just like the procedures of Korean funerals. Additionally, these arrived letters can be viewed on a large-scale screen installation.

When a visitor writes a letter using a cell phone provided by the exhibition, a TV installation will notify the visitor that the letter has been received by the departed individual. A desired visitor can spend a couple of minutes in silent reflection and pray like how Korean funerals works. The design of this installation is inspired by 'WePae,' a small frame used in traditional Korean ceremonies to display the names of deceased individuals.
